FRO Linköping is a unit of The Volontary Radio Organisation (Frivilliga Radioorganisationen, FRO) in Sweden. FRO recruits and trains radio operators for the Swedish total defence.Membership
A persons holding Swedish citizenship or a foreign national, resident i Sweden, may apply for membership in FRO. Members aged 15 or less may participate in non military activities only.Amateur radio
The amateur radio callsign of FRO Linköping is SL5ZY. FRO Linköping is not at pure amateur radio club, nevertheless amateur radio has a role in our organisation. With amateur radio it's often possible to find someone to work 24 hours a day. That makes it a good tool for training of our communication staff.
SL5ZY is a military amateur callsign. In Sweden military stations have the prefix SL. Non military club stations often have prefix SK, and individual hams prefix SM och SA. It's even possible to se that our SL-call sign belongs to a volontary radio organisation because the first letter in the suffix is Z. The figure 5 means that our QTH is in the county of either Östergötland, Södermanland, Västmanland or Uppsala, in the east part of Sweden.
